The Telangana Union of Working Journalists has criticised the attempts of a group of journalists to form a separate union in the event of the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh.
The office bearers of the Telangana Union of Working Journalists, including working president Shoukat Ali Sufi, general secretary Hadi Raheel, secretary Hassan Irfan, Dr. Gulam Abbas Khan and Ahmed Mukesh, in a press release, said that the present union had been established in 1964, and since then, the union has been active.
It was registered in the Labour Department and under the Societies Act.
They said that the union has been organising Press Meet Programmes on various occasions, and that these were attended by eminent leaders of the state.
"The press fraternity which had participated in the various programmes organised by the union is well aware of its activities.
"In spite of this, it is strange that some people have chosen to form their own union from within the existing union. This is an unfair exercise and they should choose a different name for their union," they suggested. (INN)
