With the state government reportedly seeking to have the process for the local body elections in motion by July, the Telangana Joint Action Committee (TJAC) is mulling over whether or not to extend its support to its constituents, especially to those who might be the stars of the showdown in Telangana - the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
The TRS also forms the major component of the TJAC.
TRS chief K Chandrasekhar Rao reportedly opines that the TJAC must extend it support, as the active participation of the TJAC had resulted in the loss of deposits for Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and Congress contestants during the last local body elections.
KCR is leaving no stone unturned to ensure that the TRS clutches the hilt of power in the Telangana region. The TRS set a condition that ministers of the TDP and the Congress would be allowed to be a part of the TJAC only if they resign from their respective parties.
TRS argues that the TDP and the Congress must be defeated in the local body elections as they are allegedly the major hurdles on the path to a separate Telangana.
However, other components of the TJAC oppose the TRS' proposal, supposedly because they believe that KCR finalizes the TJAC agenda.
Also, members of the TJAC opine that it is incorrect for political parties to fight among themselves for political power when they should be fighting for Telangana, together.
It has been reported that TJAC chairman Kodandaram will soon convene a meeting with the members of the committee to discuss the course of action.
