Politicians hailing from Rayalaseema, from the Congress and Praja Rajyam Party, met on Wednesday in Hyderabad to discuss the Telangana issue. The TDP also was invited to the meeting, but no TDP leader attended it.
At the meet, Congress leader J C Diwakar Reddy said that if the state were to be divided, Rayalaseema would lose because it would then have to depend on Telangana for water. He proposed a merging of Telangana with Rayalaseema in such a scenario. Some MLAs wanted a Greater Rayalaseema to also be created if AP were to be divided.
However, a consensus for a united Andhra Pradesh was largely seen to have been reached, and politicians decided to sumbit a report to the Justice Sri Krishna Committee asking the central and state governments to identify backward areas in all the 3 regions - Andhra, Rayalaseema and Telangana.
