The State Legislative Assembly was adjourned, without carrying out any business, for the
third consecutive day on Thursday, following a protest by the TRS and other opposition parties over the Telangana issue.
As soon as the House met on Thursday at 9am, Speaker Nadendla Manohar disallowed all adjournment motions moved by the opposition parties. The TDP and YSR Congress parties moved separate adjournment motions on rising prices of essential commodities; the TRS and BJP wanted Telangana resolution in the House; the MIM raised the issue of rape of a Muslim student in Nalgonda; the CPI asked for permission for Chalo Assembly rally and CPI-M wanted a debate on the problems of washer-men. However, the Speaker disallowed all the motions and began Question Hour.
Following the Speaker's refusal, all the opposition parties started raising slogans, pressing for their demands. The TRS and BJP members went near the Speaker's podium, while the YSRCP MLAs protested by standing near their seats. The furore led to the adjournment of the House for half-an-hour at about 9:08am. The Speaker then called a meeting of all the floor leaders in his chambers.
The House re-assembled at about 11:42am with Deputy Speaker Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka on the chair. He announced that all the questions raised in the Question Hour were deemed to be answered. However, the TRS and BJP continued their protest near the Speaker's podium. Within six minutes of its resumption, the House was again adjourned for half-an-hour at about 11:48am.
When the House re-assembled at about 12:42pm, on the Speaker's direction, Finance Minister Anam Ramnarayana Reddy introduced the Andhra Pradesh Tax on Professions, Trades, Callings and Employees (Amendment) Bill 2013. However, following strong protest by the TRS members, the Speaker was forced to adjourn the House for the day at about 12:46pm. (INN)
