The Osmania University Joint Action Committee (OUJAC), one of the committees constituted to take forward the demand for a separate Telangana state, has called for a hunger strike for its cause from July 11 onwards.
The JAC has decided to go ahead with its hunger strike, despite not having official permission for it from the Hyderabad police.
Hyderabad Police Commissioner had stated on Friday itself that no official permission was granted for the hunger strike since the organizers hadn't applied for it.
It may be noted that the strike will likely be deemed illegal since prohibitory orders under Section 144 CrPC are in place in Hyderabad. As long as prohibitory orders are enforced, any unlawful assembly of 5 or more persons would be illegal.
Not surprisingly, the OUJAC thrown legal technicalities to the winds, and has said it will go on with its fast at the Osmania Arts College on Monday.
