Telangana High Court lawyer Gopala Krishna Kalanidhi today received a notice from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for making objectionable remarks against the judges of the state and the country on his social media account.
The CBI sent notices to the senior advocate for his "abusive and insulting" remarks against the judges.
The apex investigation agency of the country ordered Kalanidhi to appear before it for a hearing on January 9.
Reacting to the allegations, the Telangana High Court had asked the offending advocate to tender a public apology for his objectionable comments, made in October last year.
He immediately responded and tendered an apology at a press conference at the Press Club of Hyderabad, Somajiguda, on the following day.
Reports indicate that comments ticked off the CBI as they amounted to contempt of court.
They revealed "abusive, life-threatening and intimidating words" against several judges, and "fabrication of material with abusive, hateful and contemptuous contents to cause incitement, disaffection and ill will" against them, a suo moto contempt case registered against the advocate and several others involved in the issue last year said.
It is pertinent to mention here that Supreme Court senior advocate Prashant Bhushan also faced proceedings for contempt of court for making "objectionable" comments against the Chief Justice of the country, Justice S A Bobde, in September last year.
