The Telangana High Court today convicted four police officers and sentenced them to undergo a jail term of four weeks each.
The convicts are city Additional Police Commissioner (Crime) A R Srinivas, Banjara Hills ACP M Sudarshan, and Jubilee Hills Circle Inspector Rajasekhar Reddy and Sub-Inspector Naresh.
The High Court, however, suspended the jail term for six weeks allowing the convicted police officers to appeal its orders.
The court passed the orders while dealing with a contempt of court petition filed by Jakka Vinod Kumar Reddy and his mother Jakka Soujanya Reddy.
The police faced charges that they went against the orders of the Supreme Court while dealing with a dowry harassment case, and that they subjected Vinod Kumar Reddy to severe harassment.
The petitioners told the High Court that the police had filed a chargesheet in the case without issuing a notice to them.
