Telangana IT and Industries Minister K T Rama Rao today stated that Telangana had been seeing high growth across all sectors despite the current crisis and the deceleration of national growth rates, an impact of the current Covid-19 pandemic.

Speaking after releasing an annual report on industries and IT for 2020-21 at the MCRHRD, the minister spoke about the high investment that Telangana had attracted.

"We have been attracting investments from big transnational companies like Amazon and Google. The fact that such firms make huge investments in Telangana shows the great success of our policies and vision. Due to the foresight, policies and vision of Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao and the collective efforts of our leaders and officials, the state is on a path of high growth. Today, we have overtaken Bangalore in providing space and a conducive ecosystem to IT and ITES offices. Growth is our central concern," KTR said.

"We have been making continuous efforts to achieve increased levels of development and have been implementing many welfare programs for the benefit of our people. For the cause of transparency, we release an annual report which reflects our accountability and responsibility. The report itself is evidence of our commitment to ensuring continuous development," he added.

Claiming that the number of IT sector jobs in Telangana had doubled from 3.23 lakh to 6.28 lakh in just seven years, the minister said, "As many as 20 lakh people are working in the IT sector of our state. For further growth, the Centre must help micro and small businesses through the provision of packages of stimulus funds."

He then cited the state's growth figures and stated, "Telangana's Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) was Rs 9.78 lakh crore in 2020-21, and agriculture and its allied sectors saw a growth of 20.9%. Where the national per capita income is Rs 1,27,768, in Telangana it is Rs 2,27,145. IT exports have also risen in the state from Rs 1.28 lakh crore in 2019-20 to Rs 1.45 lakh crore in 2020-21."

"I would urge the Centre to allot funds to states as part of the Rs 20 lakh crore stimulus package it had offered for the Make in India program in an efficient manner. We will launch IT companies and industries in second-tier cities to provide employment. We will also work to boost agriculture revenue. Mahabubnagar, Nizamabad, Nalgonda, and several other districts will get IT towers in about the next two years besides also getting food processing units wherever necessary," KTR said.
