The Telangana Government on Tuesday decided to shift the existing Government TB & Chest Hospital located at Erragadda to the TB Sanitorium in Ananthagiri near Vikarabad of the Ranga Reddy district.
The orders to shift the hospital have been issued on Tuesday through GO RT No 61 by the Health, Medical and Family Welfare Department.
The State Government also accorded administrative sanction for an amount of Rs 7.70 crores for carrying out repairs and renovation to the TB Sanitorium for the shifting of the TB & Chest Hospital there.
Spread over 65 acres of land in S R Nagar, the TB & Chest Hospital is one of the oldest health institutions of Hyderabad.
The Telangana Government is reportedly planning to turn the hospital land into a parade ground.
One of the reasons for shifting the hospital is the lack of occupancy. The 670-bed facility never has occupancy beyond 240 beds.
The decision has triggered severe protests by the hospital staff. (INN)
