Telangana Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan today instructed the state wing of the Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) to carry out a vaccine awareness campaign to motivate the eligible beneficiaries to get inoculated in the
ongoing Covid-19 vaccination drive.
The Governor issued the instructions through a virtual meeting from Puducherry's Raj Nivas, where she is currently residing. (She was recently given
additional charge of the UT after former Lieutenant-Governor Kiran Bedi was removed from the post.)
During the virtual meeting, she directed the IRCS to coordinate with all its district units to ensure that the campaign reached all corners of the state, and said, "It is a matter of great pride that India is fulfilling its vaccine demands on its own - the country is currently witnessing the world’s largest vaccination drive which it is carrying out in an entirely self-reliant fashion. To make the drive a success, all the eligible people must get vaccinated at the earliest."
Soundararajan then expressed her appreciation for the Raj Bhavan officers and staff members who had gotten themselves vaccinated.
"We, the Raj Bhavan staff, must be role models to the other people in the state. I would urge all the remaining eligible staff members to also get vaccinated at the earliest," she said.
The Governor also directed the Raj Bhavan dispensary's medical officers to coordinate with the Niloufer Hospital's paediatric surgeon to organise a surgery for the treatment of the ailing daughter of a Home Guard employed at her official residence.
After that, she took stock of the developments in the state, and interacted with the concerned officials. She also spoke to the participants of the Atma Nirbhar Bharat self-employment training program for women being organised by the Raj Bhavan Pariwar and took a look at their embroidery and other products, and commended the women for coming up with "innovative" mask and scarf designs.
Although she is not in Telangana at the moment, the Governor virtually interacted with a delegation of people from the state.
Secretary to Governor K Surendra Mohan was among the officials who attended the meeting.
