The State government on Wednesday accorded administrative sanction for the establishment of eight new medical colleges, which will be developed and made available for the next academic year in Telangana.
The new medical colleges will come up in the Jogulamba Gadwal, Narayanpet, Mulugu, Warangal, Medak, Yadadri Bhongir, Rangareddy and Medchal-Malkajgiri districts.
Responding to the government's decision, Minister for Health T Harish Rao said that Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao's dream of setting up medical colleges in all 33 districts of Telangana was soon going to become a reality, and that Telangana would become the only State in the country to have one government medical college in each district.
"Medical education in Telangana under the leadership of Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao has seen a revolution. During the last nine years, 29 new government medical colleges have been established in the State. With the establishment of these colleges, the number of MBBS seats in Telangana has reached almost 10,000. In addition to this, super-speciality medical services have reached even the remote areas of the State," Rao said.
