Telangana Government Puts Off Decision To Unveil New Emblem
With the decision to remove the symbols of Charminar and Kakatiya Kala Thoranam from the Telangana emblem facing criticism, the government has postponed its unveiling.
With the reported decision to remove the historic symbols of Charminar and Kakatiya Kala Thoranam from the Telangana emblem facing criticism, the State government has decided to postpone unveiling the new emblem.
Officials said that as more than 200 suggestions had been received, the State government had decided to hold more consultations, and so its proposed schedule for unveiling the new emblem had been suspended.
The new emblem was to originally be released along with the State anthem on Telangana's Formation Day on June 2. However, government sources said that only the new anthem will now be released on the Formation Day.
The State Cabinet had reportedly decided to remove the Kakatiya Kala Thoranam and the Charminar from the existing emblem, dubbing them as symbols of anarchy, and design the emblem in a new format. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy held discussions about the new emblem with artist Rudra Rajesham, and examined many samples. He also made several suggestions on the final model, saying it should reflect the people, public life, democracy, spirit of the Telangana movement, sacrifice of the martyrs etc. However, with the State government receiving many suggestions and also facing criticism from various quarters over its reported decision, the launch of the new emblem has been postponed.
