Telangana Agriculture Minister Pocharam Srinivas Reddy today said that the State government would soon waive Rs. 12,000 crores of farmers' loans as decided in a State-level banking committee meet.
Speaking to the media, Reddy said that in 2016, around 23 lakh farmers had taken a total loan of Rs. 15,000 crores. Out of this, the TRS government, in the third phase, will waive Rs. 12,000 crores. This would reduce the burden on farmers and help them get fresh loans, he said.
The Minister expressed his satisfaction over the recent heavy rains that lashed Telangana, and said that all water bodies under Mission Kakatiya had been replenished. This increased winter harvest and helped farmers raise 3 to 4 extra crops.
He also spoke about other government initiatives for farmers, including providing two subsidies worth several crores.
Reddy said that under the directives of Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, farmers in Telangana would only prosper manifold.
