Excise Department Director Apologises To High Court
Sarfaraz Ahmed tendered an unconditional apology to the court for the delay in complying with its orders, and urged it to dismiss the contempt case against him.
The Director of the State excise department Sarfaraz Ahmed filed his counter in a contempt of court case filed against him by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in the High Court.
In his counter, Sarfaraz Ahmed told the High Court that the department had submitted an 828-page report to the ED on March 21, 2022, and that it had also handed over the digital evidence that was submitted before different courts dealing with the sensational drugs peddler Kelvin case.
He also said that the department had also handed over the screenshots, call records and video recordings of 12 persons interrogated in the case, to the ED.
He asseverated that the department had no intention to violate the orders of the High Court, and that there was a delay in handing over the information to the ED due to administrative problems.
He tendered an unconditional apology to the court for the delay in complying with its orders.
He asserted that the department was ready to extend its cooperation to the ED in the case, and urged the court to dismiss the contempt case.
Meanwhile, the counsel for the ED requested the HC for some time to present arguments in the case.
The HC too asked the ED to check whether the evidence produced by the excise department was as per its orders.
It later adjourned the case to after the summer vacation.
