BRS Legislature Party Deputy Leader Harish Rao today criticised the Congress government for the delay in disbursing Rythu Bharosa financial assistance, calling it a betrayal of the farmers.
He urged the government to stop "electoral theatrics" and fulfill its obligations to the farming community.
Rao said that no administration that ignored the hardships of farmers could endure.
He criticised Chief Minister Revanth Reddy for allegedly reneging on pre-election commitments after assuming office. He recalled a public meeting in Miryalaguda on February 4 of this year, where the Chief Minister had claimed that funds had already been allocated and that Rythu Bharosa payments would be deposited into farmers' accounts soon after the municipal elections. However, more than ten days after the lifting of the election code, no funds had been disbursed, and the issue was not even discussed at the latest Cabinet meeting, Rao said.
The BRS leader also accused the Congress of deceiving the farmers by promising Rs 15,000 per acre before the elections but failing to extend agricultural support for two seasons.
He alleged that the government was using Rythu Bharosa as a political tool instead of honouring its commitments.
Questioning the Congress government's priorities, he claimed that funds were being allocated for projects such as the Musi beautification initiative, land acquisition for the proposed Fourth City, major road works, and payments exceeding Rs 25,000 crore to contractors, while claiming a lack of funds for farmers.
Rao also asked how Congress leaders were able to transfer substantial amounts to their party headquarters in Delhi.
He also criticised spending on infrastructure and facilities at the Chief Minister's camp office, alleging extravagance at a time when the farmers urgently needed support.
"If the government has Rs 9 crore to build a security wall for the Chief Minister's multi-crore residence and Rs 5 crore for a football ground beside it, but claims it has no funds for farmers, it clearly reflects its priorities," he said.
