Telangana Deputy Speaker T Padma Rao Goud today directed the officials of the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board to take immediate steps to stop collecting bills from the eligible beneficiaries of the state's new free drinking water scheme.
At a meeting with the officials of the water board, he said, "Households drawing up to 20,000 litres of water are not required to pay bills from January. Make all the necessary arrangements in this regard."
He also directed the officials to undertake any sewage reconstruction works that were required.
These steps are being taken after Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao and IT and Industries Minister K T Rama Rao promised to provide free water to all households of Greater Hyderabad whose monthly consumption was less than 20,000 litres.
