Telangana Animal Husbandry Minister T Srinivas Yadav today directed the officials of the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) to take the necessary steps to ensure that households consuming less than 20,000 litres of drinking water per month could be given free water from next month.
At a meeting with the HMWSSB in his office, he sought to know about the officials' preparedness to supply free water from January, and also told them to prepare the details of the beneficiaries.
"Make all the necessary arrangements to implement the free water scheme. Coordinate with other civic bodies to ensure that the scheme can be implemented efficiently, and ensure that the eligible households avail themselves of the benefits of the schemes," he instructed the officials.
The minister also asked them to complete any pending sewage-related construction and repairs to improve the overall sanitation of Hyderabad.
The state government has been preparing to execute the scheme after Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao promised to provide free water to all households of Greater Hyderabad whose monthly consumption was less than 20,000 litres. Just yesterday, Telangana Deputy Speaker T Padma Rao Goud had also
met with the HMWSSB to discuss the steps to implement the same.
