Telangana DGP M Mahender Reddy on Sunday said that the crimes in the state had dropped by 5% this year.

Addressing the media, the DGP said that while major crimes like murders had dropped by 4%, property offences had dropped by 8%, crimes against women by 7% and cyber crimes by 3%.

He said that the department was trying to reduce crime with the help of the latest technology, and that it was bearing fruit.

Reddy also said that the police was increasingly strengthening its presence in the hinterland. The department had also set up Bharosa Centres and SHE Teams in the districts, and had rescued 6,012 children through the Muskaan drive in the state, he claimed.

Effective steps were afoot to install 5 lakh CC cameras under the GHMC limits in the days to come, he said.
