The secretary of the Telangana Cricket Association (TCA), Guruva Reddy, today lashed out at the president of the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA), former captain of the Indian cricket team Mohammed Azharuddin, for filing a defamation case against the TCA.
Reddy alleged that Azhar had lodged the case against the body as it had questioned the irregularities being committed by the HCA.
He made these remarks while talking to the media about the controversial case after appearing before a sessions court in Nampally.
Speaking on the occasion, a visibly irate Reddy claimed that the former cricketer had sued him for Rs 2 crore, and that the entire case was "false", one that would "not stand in a court of law". He then demanded that the Centre take steps to prod the CBI into completing the probe into the infamous match fixing cases filed against the HCA head.
The TCA official also lampooned Azhar saying that although the TCA had filed a counter in the defamation suit, the former cricketer had not yet responded to the same. Further, he added that the HCA needed to collaborate with the TCA as per the instructions of the BCCI, and work to scout and develop cricketing talent outside of Hyderabad as well.
An ugly struggle for power has been an ongoing part of Azhar's tenure as HCA chief. The controversial cricketer was earlier caught up in a feud surrounding the
suspension of five of the body's members.
