Congress leader and TPCC Publicity Cell chairman Madhu Yashki Goud today called upon the people of the State to fight for achieving a complete liquor ban in Telangana.
He alleged that the TRS government was destroying the lives of the people by encouraging liquor sales, and consequently increasing the crime rate.
Goud said that the State government had earned Rs 1.35 lakh crore from the sale of liquor so far, and had a target of Rs 40,000 crore per annum from it this year. Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao had turned the State into a liquor-consuming Telangana instead of a socially cohesive Telangana, and was thrusting his own liquor-consuming habit on the people, Goud lamented.
Goud also mocked the government saying that while the State did not get adequate water, it had created a record in the sale of liquor. The total number of pubs in the State had gone up to 100 from just 30 in undivided Andhra Pradesh, and the ruling party leaders and their family members were operating the pubs in the State capital, he said. He also claimed that 70% of the visitors to the pubs were minors.
He added that the number of wine shops had also gone up, from 2,216 to 2,620, and that the number of bars had gone up from 1,060 to 1,219, in the State.
