Telangana Congress senior leader and Rajya Sabha MP V Hanumantha Rao on Monday warned of a massive agitation if the Centre failed to withdraw the ordinance on the Polavaram Project.
Addressing a press conference in Hyderabad, Rao said that the BJP-led NDA government had taken a unilateral decision in issuing an ordinance that facilitated the merger of 7 mandals of the Khammam district with Seemandhra.
He said that the mandals belonged to the Telangana State, and that the Centre would not be allowed to merge them with the residuary state of Andhra Pradesh at any cost.
He said that the Congress would go along with the Telangana Rashtra Samithi, if required, to oppose the ordinance.
Hanumantha Rao blamed the Union Minister for Urban Development M Venkaiah Naidu and the AP Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu for the controversial ordinance.
He said that while Chandrababu Naidu was making provocative statements by announcing that the Polavaram dam would be constructed at any cost, Venkaiah Naidu was using his influence at the Centre and damaging the interests of the Telangana State.
He said that as a Union Minister Venkaiah Naidu should not be biased towards any State. (INN)
