The Congress today held a protest against the enactment of the Citizenship Amendment Bill at the B R Ambedkar statue on Tank Bund.
Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) President N Uttam Kumar Reddy, senior party leader J Geeta Reddy and some minority community leaders of the party took part in the agitation.
Addressing the gathering on the occasion, the TPCC president said that the CAA was against the Constitution, and that the BJP government at the Centre was destroying the country's secular fabric by enacting controversial laws that targeted a specific community.
He said that the Congress would fight any onslaught on any community tooth and nail, and that it would continue to agitate against the CAA. He said that the party would next take out a flag march from Gandhi Bhavan to the Ambedkar statue on December 28 as part of its agitation against the act. He said that the party had already sought permission from the police for the program.
Reddy also slammed the police for their hostile behaviour towards the agitating students, and demanded that the State and the union governments withdraw the police forces deployed in universities.
