Terming the Speaker's decision to merge the defecting 12 TDP MLAs into the TRS as unethical, undemocratic and unconstitutional, Congress Legislature Party leader K Jana Reddy alleged that instead of clearing the pending anti-defection law cases, the Speaker had released a bulletin.
Speaking to the media at the CLP office on Friday along with MLAs G Chinna Reddy and Rammohan Reddy, Jana Reddy lamented that he was surprised at the Speaker's decision, and was wondering what would happen to the Constitution.
"For me, it is indigestible. Shifting loyalties is against the Constitution and unethical, and hence the Congress had lodged a complaint with the Speaker over the defections of MLAs," he said.
He said that the Speaker should have sought the opinion of legal experts over what to do next instead of legitimizing the defections with gusto. He wondered who one would lodge a complaint with now when the Speaker himself took such decisions.
He said that the Congress opposed the Speaker's decision vehemently. Stating that the systems were becoming inactive, he feared that such failure of systems was very dangerous to society.
He said that the Congress would decide who to approach now after discussing with Constitutional experts.
He reacted with disdain when asked whether there was any chance that the CLP too would meet the fate of the TDLP, and said that it was a despicable thought.
