Contrary to the expectations that there would be major fireworks, the Telangana Congress successfully managed to put up an impressive show of unity during the workshop that began at Sri Indu Engineering College in Ibrahimpatnam on Sunday.
Nearly 1,100 Congress leaders including 238 PCC delegates; 238 Block Presidents; 70 District and Town Presidents; 120 District Cell Presidents; 37 MLAs, MLCs and MPs; 100 MPP and ZPP members; 100 corporators; and about 250 PCC body members and other leaders participated in the workshop.
Some workers tried to disrupt the plenary session demanding that the workers be given an opportunity to speak. However, AICC Secretary Digvijay Singh first assured them that 10 different groups had been formed to facilitate all the workers to express their views.
When some workers again disrupted the speech of AICC General Secretary R C Kuntaiah, Singh warned that those creating trouble would be immediately suspended from the party.
Later, all the leaders actively took part in the Group Discussion which lasted about six hours.
While addressing the plenary session, PCC Working President Uttam Kumar Reddy said that the Congress had failed to approach the people properly with its list of achievements. The same views were expressed by Telangana PCC Chief Ponnala Lakshmaiah.
Deputy CLP Leader in the Telangana Legislative Council Shabbir Ali moved a resolution paying tributes to the martyrs of Telangana and also the farmers who committed suicide in the recent past. His resolution was supported by Kisan Cell chairman M Kodanda Reddy.
In his speech, Kuntaiah asked the workers to introspect over the reasons for their failure to convince the people on the party's role in getting statehood for Telangana. He also asked them to plan the strategy for the next five years.
Addressing the workers, Digvijay Singh expressed confidence over making a vigorous comeback in Telangana. (INN)
