Congress supremo Sonia Gandhi today approved a new AICC team to look after the party affairs in Telangana.
R C Khuntia has been appointed AICC in-charge of Telangana replacing Digvijaya Singh. AICC Secretary Satish Jarkiholi was appointed as Khuntia's deputy, taking up the position previously occupied by Khuntia.
Khuntia was earlier Digvijaya Singh's lieutenant and second in-charge of the Telangana Congress.
Some Congress leaders in Telangana are happy and some are not happy with the removal of Singh. Several Congress leaders were not happy with the working style of Singh and were openly criticising it saying it was harming the party in a big way, and even secretly they lodged a complaint with the AICC. It is learnt that the AICC took a decision after receiving complaints not only from Telangana state but also from Goa and Karnataka. But some leaders were happy with his "touch-me-not" style of working.
Incidentally, it is learnt that many leaders were not happy with the appointment of Khuntia as fulltime in-charge of party affairs, given their differences with his working style. One of their grouses appeared to be that he came to Telangana only whenever he went to his native state Odisha.
