Congress MLA Chirumurthy Lingaiah, on Monday, stated that MPs, Ministers, MLAs and MLCs from the Telangana region would meet Congress president Sonia Gandhi after the conclusion of the Assembly session, to press for the Telangana demand.
Talking to media persons at the Assembly media point, Lingaiah said that the leaders would describe to Sonia Gandhi the latest political situation in the Telangana region, in their meeting. They would also talk about the suicides of students for the cause of statehood, he said.
He said that the leaders would mount pressure on Sonia Gandhi to take an early decision on Telangana statehood.
He said that the leaders would ask Sonia Gandhi to honour the High Command's promise of resolving the statehood issue after the Assembly elections in 5 states.
He hoped that the High Command would take a favourable decision on Telangana state by 2014.
Condemning the death of Bojya Naik, the MBA student from Warangal district who had immolated himself, he appealed to the students' community to not resort to such extreme steps towards achieving statehood, and to observe restraint till the formation of the state. (INN)
