The Congress today urged Telangana Legislative Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar to withhold the salary of BRS chief and former Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, accusing him of neglecting his responsibilities as an MLA.
Congress GHMC floor leader Daripally Rajashekar Reddy submitted a formal request to the Speaker at his chamber in the Assembly, insisting that KCR's salary be stopped.
"The salaries of the MLAs are paid from the taxpayers' hard-earned money. However, former CM KCR has completely neglected his duties as a public representative," Reddy alleged, arguing that a senior opposition leader and former chief minister who had governed Telangana for a decade should be actively contributing to legislative discussions and offering guidance on governance and public issues.
"What's more shocking is that KCR has not even been attending Assembly sessions - the very platform meant to address the concerns of the people," Reddy added.
While it remains highly unlikely that the Speaker will approve the request to halt KCR's salary, the Congress move has sparked a political debate.
Meanwhile, with the Assembly set to convene for the Budget session from tomorrow, KCR chaired a meeting with BRS MLAs, MLCs and senior leaders at Telangana Bhavan to strategise the Opposition's approach in the House.
