The picture of Telangana Tribal Welfare Minister Azmeera Chandulal's convoy driving past the body of a road accident victim in the Jayashankar Bhupalpally district went viral on social media.
The incident happened at the Nallakaluva crossroads in Palampet village on Sunday afternoon when a truck rammed into a motorcycle, killing one on the spot and injuring two others.
The victim, Taduri Madhusudhana Chary, was travelling to the Ramappa temple along with two of his friends - Gopi and Sateesh - when his motorcycle was hit by the speeding truck.
While Chary died immediately, the two pillion riders escaped with injuries. The truck driver reportedly had fled. When nearby villagers gathered around the spot and were looking for a vehicle to shift Chary's body and the injured to a hospital, a convoy of cars belonging to the Minister zoomed past the accident spot without as much as slowing down.
"I am sure that the Minister, sitting in the front seat, noticed the body. It was quite inhuman on his part to ignore the accident victims," said a villager on the scene of accident.
"He should have stopped the convoy, got down from his vehicle and helped the victims," he added. It was only after the Minister's troop left that the police reached the spot and completed the formalities.
As per reports, Chandulal, upon being questioned by a few media houses, told them that he had seen the body on the road but could not stop as he was rushing to Palampet to call on one of his relatives who was in a critical condition.
"I was busy attending a call from my relatives when my convoy went past the accident spot. In normal circumstances, I would have got down and helped, but I was in a hurry," Chandulal said.
