Arrangements In Place For By-Polls

Exit polls, electronic media, bulk SMSes and liquor have all been banned by the EC.
Hyderabad | 16th March 2012
Chief Electoral officer Bhanwar Lal, on Friday, stated that the Election Commission has set up 660 polling booths in 7 Assembly segments where by-elections would be held on 18 March.

Briefing the media about the arrangements for the by-elections, he said that the Commission has taken all measures for the conduct of polls in a free and fair manner.

Apart from imposing ban on exit poll surveys, the commission has also imposed a ban on electronic media coverage of the campaigns. The Commission has banned bulk SMSes for the next 48 hours, he said.

The sale of liquor has been prohibited till the completion of polling.

Bhanwar Lal said that the Commission has seized cash of Rs. 9 crore from the poll-bound areas. He warned that the Commission would take stern action against officials who indulge in poll irregularities and try to influence the voters through money or liquor. (INN)
