The new Telangana Legislative Assembly will start its first session on the auspicious day of Ekadasi in the Uttarayana period, Wednesday, January 17.

The new Telangana Legislative Assembly will start its first session on the auspicious day of Ekadasi in the Uttarayana period, Wednesday, January 17.
A day before, on Dasami, January 16, at 5 pm, the senior-most MLA in the Assembly, Mumtaz Ahmed Khan representing the Charminar constituency, will take oath as pro tem Speaker in the Raj Bhavan. Governor E S L Narasimhan will administer the oath to Khan.
The Assembly will be in session for four days from January 17 to 20. The proceedings will commence at 11:30 am on January 17, and will be presided over by the pro tem Speaker. First the newly elected MLAs will take oath one after the other, and the program is likely to go on for about two hours. In the afternoon an official lunch will be hosted for the MLAs in the lawns of the Council Hall on the Jubilee Hall premises. The same day, the schedule for the election of the Speaker will be announced, and the nomination process will commence.
On the next day, January 18, the Speaker's election and announcement will take place. Then the Leader of the House and Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, the Leader Of Opposition and the floor leaders of other political parties will escort the newly-elected Speaker to the Chair. The Assembly proceedings will then continue with the Speaker in the Chair. The Speaker will conduct the BAC meeting after the House is adjourned, and will take a decision on the Governor's address on the following day.
On January 19 the Governor will address the House. The next day the House will introduce the motion of thanks to the Governor's address and adopt the same.
