In the wake of sharp criticism from the Opposition over Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao's "silence" on the Centre's assignment of the Polavaram irrigation project to Andhra Pradesh, and the upcoming Apex Council Meeting in New Delhi, the CM held key discussions on the issue with Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao and the officials at his camp office today.
During the discussions, KCR and Harish Rao reportedly expressed their anguish at Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu requesting the council meet, and his "hindering" projects in Telangana.
They also reportedly called him out on the submergence of seven Telangana mandals under the ongoing Polavaram project.
For those who came in late, Union Water Resources Minister Uma Bharti called for the Apex Council meeting upon the directive of the Supreme Court to sort out the issues pertaining to the disputed irrigation and water projects between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. Issues related to the Krishna and Godavari river waters and projects will be discussed in the Apex Council meeting.
The Telangana and AP governments will present their respective cases at the meeting. The goal is to find an amicable solution to the long-pending disputes between the States.
