Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan today said that the inclusive and comprehensive development of Telangana had become a role model for the country.
Addressing the joint session of the State Assembly and Legislative Council on the first day of the budget session, the Governor said that Telangana was progressing in a phenomenal manner on every front under the leadership of Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, and that the success was a result of the collective efforts of all the stakeholders.
Due to the enormous efforts made, the total revenue receipts of the State which were a mere Rs 62,000 crore in 2014-15 had increased to Rs 1,84,000 crore by 2021-22, and the per capita income of the State which was Rs 1,24,104 in 2014-15 had jumped to Rs 3,17,115 by 2022-23, she said.
The growth rates of several sectors of the economy were also now twice what they were earlier, and this progress was due to the focus on capital expenditure by the government, she added.
Soundararajan also said that Telangana had achieved historic progress in irrigation by completing various projects, and that the irrigated land in the State had gone up from 20 lakh acres in 2014 to 73 lakh acres today.
"The government is determined to achieve the target of providing irrigation to more than one crore acres of land. This target will also be achieved very shortly," she added.
Hailing the success of the electricity sector, she said that Telangana's per capita power consumption in 2014-15 was only 1,356 units, and that by 2O2l-22 it had gone up to 2,126 units.
The enormous increase in per capita consumption of power was a clear indicator of the fantastic progress made by the State, Soundararajan claimed.
Soundararajan also said that despite the fact that there was a fear of recession across the world and a large number of multinational companies were resorting to laying off their employees, the Telangana government was still fulfilling its promise of recruitment for a large number of government jobs, and was filling 80,039 jobs across all the departments in one go.
In addition to this, the regularisation of the contract employees was also on, she said. And work was on to ensure that 95% of the jobs went only to local candidates, she added.
During her speech, the Governor quoted excerpts from the literary works of poets Kaloji Narayana Rao and Dasaradhi Krishnamacharya, calling everyone to strive for a better world for the future generations and to dedicate themselves to national development.
For the uninitiated, the speech of the Governor is scripted by the government.
