Telugu Desam Party whip Dhulipala Narendra, on Tuesday, slammed the state government for its failure to rescue turmeric farmers, who, he said, are in a pathetic condition due to the government's failure to announce an appropriate Minimum Support Price for their produce.
Talking to media persons at the Assembly media point, Dhulipala Narendra said that turmeric farmers have been incurring heavy losses due to the manifold increase in the input costs.
He said that the farmers were being forced to end their lives due to their inability to clear the debts.
He appealed to the government to increase the MSP for turmeric from Rs. 4,000 to Rs. 6,000 per quintal, and to support them financially.
Narendara said that the government, which projects itself to be a "champion of farmers", must take farmer-friendly steps and respond to their issues promptly. MLA P Pulla Rao was also present in the conference. (INN)
