The Telugu Desam Party will stage a "Maha Dharna" on the Prakasam Barrage on Saturday, to highlight the plight of farmers affected due to the non-release of water from the Nagarjuna Sagar Dam to the Krishna Delta region.
Addressing a press conference at NTR Trust Bhavan on Wednesday, Mylavaram MLA Devineni Umamaheswara Rao said that farmers from Krishna, West Godavari, Guntur, and Prakasam districts would participate in large numbers to "wake the state government up from its deep slumber".
Stating that chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy had "pompously" announced that the government would release 15 TMC to the Delta region, he said that the government had now washed off its hands off by releasing a mere 3.5 TMC of water.
Devineni Umamaheshwar Rao said that the government was not making any efforts to file a counter-affidavit in the High Court before August 27.
Stating that 84 TMC of water was sufficient to generate hydel power, he alleged that the government has totally failed to supply qualitative coal for power generation as well.
The TDP leader also accused the CM of participating in the Indiramma Baata program while not bothering about people's problems.
Meanwhile, TDP leader Dhulipala Narendra alleged that the crops in the region had withered due to frequent power cuts, causing huge damage to the distressed farmers. (INN)
