Trouble seems to be brewing for the powerful Gali brothers, after Karnataka Governor H R Bhardwaj directed his chief minister B S Yeddyurappa to take action over the allegations of illegal mining raised against them.
Talking to media persons in the national capital after meeting president Pratibha Patil, Bhardwaj said that he had been assured by Yeddyurappa that he would look into the situation, and also said that he needed some time.
The Gali brothers, Tourism Minister Janardhana Reddy and Revenue Minister Karunakara Reddy, in the Karnataka government, own the Obulapuram Mining Company, and also hold mining leases in Bellary and Anantapur districts.
The brothers are also believed to be on close terms with the family of former chief minister late Y S Rajasekhara Reddy.
Bhardwaj said that he has taken a serious note of the allegations raised against the mining magnates and informed the centre of his concern.
He said that the issue was of the integrity and probity of those in high office, and whether ministers can indulge in this kind of corruption.
The Gali brothers had led a revolt against Yeddyurappa earlier this year, forcing him to drop his supporters from the cabinet.
