Minister for Irrigation T Harish Rao today directed officials to focus on providing civic amenities to the people in NBT Nagar of Banjara Hills.
Visiting the area as part of the Swachch Hyderabad program along with TRS MP K Kesava Rao and officials, the minister interacted with the local people. After inspecting the roads and markets which needed immediate repairs, the minister asked the officials to repair them.
He also asked the people and small vendors to keep their houses, markets and streets clean.
"Officials should create awareness among the people to throw garbage into the bins provided for the purpose," he said.
The residents complained to the minister that no official visited the place to check for storm water and drainage leakages, and that the dirty water stagnated on the roads.
The minister said that he was ascertaining the problems and pressing the staff to address them immediately.
"I will also look into the demands like removal of HT wires and their replacement to avoid the problem, and construction of a building for women," he said, and announced that Rs 1.20 lakh would be allotted for the solving of the problem of high tension power lines.
The minister also said that every house should have a drinking water tap, and that the government would see that people got drinking water everyday. He announced that Rs 14.50 crores would be allotted for the laying of a drinking water pipeline to eradicate the drinking water scarcity in NBT Nagar.
He also directed the officials to repair the roads in NBT Nagar immediately, and asked the officials to provide a hospital and a weekly market besides address the issues of civic amenities.
Rao also said that a special camp would be conducted on Monday to provide life insurance scheme to the labourers, who were more in number in the NBT Nagar Basti. He also assured the basthi people that an e-library and a gym would be set up there.
