The Supreme Court ruled that the Padmasri honour/award given to Tollywood actor Manchu Mohan Babu need not be taken back.
It may be mentioned here that the Andhra Pradesh High Court had many months back ordered the authorities to withdraw the award to the actor following allegations of misusing it as a title before his name.
During the release of his son Manchu Vishnu's movie
Denikaina Ready, several cases were filed against Mohan Babu for a "Padmasri" prefix being added to his name in the film's credits.
After a series of hearings, the High Court delivered a judgment cancelling the honour bestowed upon the actor. Mohan Babu then challenged the HC's ruling in the apex court.
In his counter petition, Babu stated that the film's producer had credited him as Padmasri Mohan Babu without his knowledge.
Mohan Babu also promised that he would not dishonor the award in the future, and requested that he may be permitted to keep the award.
The Supreme Court then chose to set aside the High Court order. (NSS)
