The cabinet sub-committee on power has decided to supply power for 7 hours to farmers, for the ensuing Rabi season.
The decision was taken by the sub-committee, which met at the state Secretariat on Friday. Briefing media persons about the decisions, Information Technology and Communications Minister Ponnala Lakshmaiah said that despite several hurdles, the state government would ensure a 7-hour power supply to farmers.
The sub-committee also dismissed Energy Department officials' contention that they would not be able to supply power for 7 hours.
The sub-committee recommended that the government buy additional power from neighbouring states if required. It has also been decided to hold another review meeting with the Chief Minister on this issue.
Meanwhile, Finance Minister Anam Ramnarayan Reddy informed the press that the government would soon call for tenders for solar power projects in AP. (INN)
