In a sensational incident, a student of Narayana Junior College in Amberpet, Sandeep Reddy, ended up getting set on fire accidentally after he poured petrol over his body and that of the Principal, Sudhakar Reddy.
Sandeep Reddy sustained grievous injuries as the fire engulfed his entire body.
A student leader, Sandeep Reddy had come to support another student named Sai Narayana who had just passed out and who was reportedly not being given his TC due to not clearing some pending fees, and as the argument got heated, poured petrol on himself and on the Principal threatening to set them both on fire.
Another fire nearby set them both ablaze, and also resulted in burns to an Administrative Officer named Ashok Reddy who tried to save them.
All the injured were rushed to a hospital for treatment.
The entire furniture in the office of the Principal and the AC were gutted.
The management of the college lodged a complaint with local police in this connection. The police reached the spot and started an investigation.
Soon, activists of various students organisations staged a dharna in front of the college condemning the incident. Raising slogans against the college management, some of the activists attacked the college with stones, resulting in damage to the entrance glasses and window glasses of the college.
Police teams led by the East Zone DCP made elaborate security arrangements to avoid any untoward incident.
