Action Against Fake Complaints: EC

The CEO has announced that the EC will take strict action against anyone filing false complaints against their political opponents.
Hyderabad | 5th July 2010
The Election Commission said it would take strict action against anyone filing false complaints against their political opponents.

Talking to media persons on Sunday, Chief Electoral Officer I V Subba Rao said that if a complaint is filed before the EC and it was found to be baseless then action would be initiated against the complainant.

Earlier, Election Commissioner Jai P Prakash expressed his satisfaction over the arrangements made for the smooth conduct of by-elections to the 12 assembly constituencies in Telangana region.

I V Subba Rao revealed that the EC has formed special teams comprising Joint Collectors and other officials to take a look at the amount of money being spent by candidates on campaigning.

The CEO further said that observers will be deputed in all the 12 constituencies going to the polls, and added that the entire voting process will be videographed.

Maintaining that the EVMs were tamperproof, he said that they will be verified on July 5 and 6, to end the doubts expressed by various political parties over their functioning.

The CEO said that the Election Commission is affiliated only to the Constitution of the country, that the EC's job is to uphold the democratic principles of the Constitution, and that it does not favour any political party.
