Former minister, Manthani MLA and senior Congress leader D Sridhar Babu today demanded that the state government order a judicial inquiry into the suicide of Seelam Rangaiah, who allegedly committed suicide in the Manthani police station.
He also demanded that the Home Minister and the DGP of the state respond on the issue.
Addressing media persons at Gandhi Bhavan, Babu also demanded that the state government pay an ex-gratia of Rs 25 lakh to the family members of Rangaiah.
Expressing his condolences over the death of Rangaiah, Babu said that the Congress had doubts over his mysterious death, and demanded the state government conduct a post-mortem of his body at either Gandhi hospital or Osmania General Hospital, and that the entire post-mortem proceedings be videographed.
The MLA claimed that Rangaiah had committed suicide as the police had warned him that they would slap the PD Act against him in a case related to wild animals.
Babu said that the state had witnessed 10 to 15 custodial deaths after its formation, and that that was a very disturbing number.
