Communist Party of India (Marxist) State Secretary B V Raghavulu on Thursday demanded that status quo must be maintained on the Telangana issue, and that it should be the responsibility of the centre to come out with a solution.
The veteran Communist leader said, "We want status quo to be maintained. The CPM is of the view that the centre must come out with a solution on the issue. Mere discussions are of no use, and hopefully the centre will have a clear view by the next meeting."
Raghavulu demanded that the Union Home Minister, P Chidambaram, make his stand on Telangana statehood issue clear immediately.
Talking to media persons after the outcome of the all-party meeting on the Justice Srikrishna Commission Report, the Left party leader demanded that the centre make its stand clear on the bifurcation of state. If the centre delayed in making the announcement, it would provoke the Telangana people, and create a law and order situation.
Raghavulu hailed the Union Minister's call to all parties to observe restraint over the recommendations of the SKC report, and to help the government maintain law and order.
He appealed to Chidambaram to elicit the state's parties' views within 15 days, and to convene an all-party meeting as early as possible to chalk out the future course of action.
He asked Chidambaram to withdraw the central paramilitary forces from the state immediately, as he was of the opinion that the state was peaceful.
The CPI state secretary K Narayana found fault with the report for not mentioning Telangana clearly in the recommendations.
