Universities acros the state may declare holidays from January 3rd to avoid possible disturbances in the wake of the Srikrishna Committee's report submission.
The government has called vice-chancellors of all the universities across the state for a meeting on Monday, to discuss measures to prevent any possible unrest in the wake of the Srikrishna Committee's report submission on December 31.
Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University's vice-chancellor, Prof. D Narasimha Reddy, revealed to media persons on Friday that the higher education minister, Damodar Rajanarasimha, has called the vice-chancellors' meeting on Monday to discuss the situation in universities, in view of Justice B N Srikrishna Commission submitting its report on the future of Andhra Pradesh on December 31.
According to government sources, the meeting will decide if the higher education ministry would prefer declaring holidays to the universities across the state from January 3 to ward off potential trouble.
Prof. Narasimha Reddy also stated that despite disturbances in the state, JNTU was maintaining its academic year calendar strictly, and semester examinations are being conducted as per schedule in the affiliated colleges.
He called upon parents to discourage their wards from participating in the agitation, and to cooperate with educational institutions and the government for the smooth passage of the academic year.
