The Srikrishna Committee is likely to submit its report on the issue of a separate Telangana state by tonight, as home minister Chidambaram will not be available tomorrow, and the committee is firm about adhering to the deadline.
The prime minister, Manmohan Singh, called for a meeting in Delhi, at 11:00am on Wednesday, which was attended by Pranab Mukherjee, Chidambaram, A K Antony and Moily.
Topics discussed included the issue of Telangana, possible response of the public and political parties to Srikrishna Committee's report, and the law and order situation in Telangana.
The behavior of Telangana's MPs -
their demands for lifting of police cases against Telangana students and agitators - was explained to the prime minister.
The politicians also tried to gauge the effect a separate Telangana would have on other states demanding for bifurcation.
Whether to reveal the entire contents of the report to the media, or to provide the media with a gist of the report, was another dilemma the meeting sought to solve.
