Six drunk women were detained by the Banjara Hills police late on Saturday night when they created a nuisance on the KBR Park road.
According to the information received, one of the women stood on the middle of the road near KBR Park around midnight on Saturday and caused a nuisance for one-and-a-half hours by stopping motorists and trying to pelt stones at the cars passing by. The bewildered motorists alerted the Banjara Hills police about the woman on the busy road, but the police apparently remained unresponsive for an hour.
The six women reportedly came out of a pub located on the KBR Road stretch and started arguing among themselves. Two of them women abused each other in foul language, and grappled among themselves. Another then came on to the road and started stopping motorists and creating a nuisance as mentioned above. A few persons, apparently known to the women, tried to get them to go home, but in vain. All of this resulted in the vehicular traffic coming to a grinding halt on the road for an hour.
The Banjara Hills police eventually came to the spot, but could not control the women. Policewomen from other police stations then came to the KBR Park stretch and took the women into custody. The women were all shifted to the Banjara Hills police station where one of them again created a nuisance and shouted at the policemen on duty. Unable to discipline the women, the police called their parents and relatives and handed them over to them.
In another incident, a Nigerian created a nuisance during a drunk and drive checking drive by the traffic police on Jubilee Hills Road No 45. The offender tried to attack media personnel who were covering the drive. Alerted by the traffic police, the Jubilee Hills police took the Nigerian into custody.
