Chief Minister Revanth Reddy today announced that six skill development courses would be introduced in the first year in the upcoming Skill University, and that trained students would be given certificates after completion of the courses.
Addressing the House on Thursday after the introduction of the Young India Skill University of Telangana Bill in the Assembly, the CM said that a total of 2,000 students would get admissions in the current year.
"The courses will be offered by collecting a nominal fee of Rs 50,000 every year. SC, ST and BC students will be provided skill development courses free of cost through fee reimbursement," Reddy said.
"Some organisations have come forward to provide training and provide jobs too," he added.
The CM said that the State government set up the Skill University inspired by Mahatma Gandhi, and aimed to provide employment to lakhs of youth through it. A total of 17 skill development courses would be introduced in the university in the days to come, he said.
"Unemployment has been increasing due to lack of professional skills, and there is a shortage of skilled people in the world. We need to bring changes in our policies in tune with the advancement of the world," Reddy said, explaining the rationale behind the setting up of the university.
The CM also said that the State government was planning to establish colleges and provide training in the districts too in the future.
Meanwhile, Reddy along with Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka laid the foundation stone for the Skill University at Mir Khanpet in Kandukuru mandal of Rangareddy district.
