Singireddy Srinivas Reddy, TDP floor leader in the GHMC, on Saturday appealed to all eligible voters to register their names, corrections (if any) in their particulars, transpositions, additions and deletions, etc., in the electoral list.
The Election Commissioner of India is conducting a special drive to identify all eligible voters attaining the age of 18 years (as on January 1 every year) in each of the 8.5 lakh polling stations in the country. It is doing so by establishing counters in certain designated centres on December 1 (Sunday).
Singireddy requested eligible citizens to avail themselves of the opportunity and gain their entitlement to their right to vote.
"Some political activists may take undue advantage of this facility, by registering fake names in bulk, with bogus addresses, to cram their vote bank. This not only distorts and contaminates the electoral rolls, but also paves way for fraudulent politicians to occupy prestigious posts by indulge in riggings, to rule the government," he feared, adding that such a practice would lead to a malfunction of the total system of the country.
He also expressed concern on the non-participation of eligible voters in polling.
"Statistical records reflect that Indians are very reluctant to franchise their valuable vote while electing political dignitaries." He observed that the turnout rate is as low as 20% to 25% in certain classes.
Various forms, including Form 6, Form 7, Form 8 and Form 8-A, pertaining to the inclusion of new names, deletions, corrections and transpositions within constituencies, are being made available in the designated centres on Sunday. (INN)
