Former minister Dr P Shankar Rao strongly opposed the removal of any statues of Telugu personalities from the Tank Bund.
Speaking to media persons in the Assembly premises on Monday, Shankar Rao said that it would be immoral to remove the statues of Telugu personalities as all of them had contributed to the promotion and growth of Telugu culture.
He said that the government should install statues of personalities from Telangana in the future, but it would be wrong to remove the existing statues of people who hailed from the Andhra region.
Shankar Rao said that by deciding to remove the existing statues, Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao was trying to create a rift between the Telugu people.
He said that such a division would be not good for the Telugu people and the two Telugu-speaking States.
He said all Telugu people, living across the world, should remain united and maintain cordial relationships. (INN)
