Former minister and senior Congress leader Dr P Shankar Rao has rebelled against the party high command for denying him the party ticket from the Shadnagar Assembly constituency, filing his nomination papers as an independent candidate from the same constituency.
Accompanied by his daughter Susmitha, Rao submitted his nomination papers to the Shadnagar Returning Officer.
Rao tried his best to secure the party ticket by camping in New Delhi and pleading his case with the senior leaders of the party, but all his efforts went in vain with the party deciding to field former MLA Ch Pratap Reddy from the constituency, leading to him deciding to contest as an independent.
Rao had represented the constituency for six consecutive terms earlier, even during the NTR wave.
