» Sex Determination Scan Leads To Pregnant Woman's Death In Kurnool
Woman Killed For Carrying Girl child
Frustated that his wife is carrying yet another girl, a man attacked his wife after the reports of a sex determination scan revealed she was carrying a female foetus.
A pregnant woman in Kurnool fell victim to the wide-spread discrimination against girls in India.
The mother of 2 girls was carrying yet another girl in her womb, the reports of a sex determination scan revealed. Frustated that his wife was carrying yet another girl, Prakash attacked her on Tuesday evening in an inebriated state. Neighbours rushed the greviously injured victim to a nearby hospital, but in vain.
The police caught Prakash between 9am and 9:30am on Wednesday morning, and he denies having approached any hospital to determine the sex of the foetus in his wife's womb.
However, the parents of the accused admit that it is possible that their son might have attacked his wife.
Condemning this incident, Progressive Organisation for Women (POW) leader Sandhya pointed out that even though prenatal sex determination is banned under the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques Act 1994, the practice of using ultrasound techniques to determine the gender of foetuses is rife.
She blamed the government for not paying attention to the social evil of discrimination against women, and for not spreading awareness about the biological aspects of pregnancy.
She opined that such crimes would reduce if the public learnt that it is the sex chromosome donated by the man that determines the gender of an embryo, and that the woman is merely the carrier of the unborn child.
The POW leader asked the government to take the necessary measures to dispel the myths surrounding women in India.
